There’s more to green building than solar panels on the roof
Buildings account for 39% of carbon dioxide emissions in the United States. That means it’s time to rethink how buildings are designed, built, and operated – with sustainability at the center of the process. In order to limit the effects of climate change, every product used in the construction of a new home, office, or commercial building will need to meet exacting efficiency standards and be created from eco-friendly raw materials.
Sierra Pacific is one company working with a vision of a better future in mind. A future with less waste, and more trees.
Healthy Forests
In addition to transforming raw timber into top-quality windows and doors, Sierra Pacific owns and manages nearly 1.9 million acres of forest in California and Washington. Their forestry philosophy is founded on extensive scientific research and the belief that healthy trees, cool clean water, and wildlife habitat are the natural byproducts of sound forest management. Their environmental practices meet or exceed the highest standards of California, Washington, and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI).
Technical Innovation
Sierra Pacific is also a leader in technological innovation. By using computerized scanning equipment, Sierra Pacific makes sure that as little as possible is wasted as trees are processed into raw lumber, milled, and assembled into windows and doors. At the end of the day, the few shavings and chips that remain on the shop floor are pressed into particleboard. Bark is used for landscaping mulch or is used as fuel for drying lumber or generating electricity.
